Most lighters split those into separate steps you don't think twice about. Craighill's refillable, wick-based Swingtop Lighter, built at their Brooklyn studio, collapses both into one.

What makes the Swingtop Lighter interesting is its unified mechanism. Most traditional lighters require two distinct motions: flipping open a lid and striking a wheel. Craighill engineered a singular, spring-loaded swingarm that handles opening, lighting, and snuffing all in one fluid sequence.

The motivation for creating the Swingtop Lighter is rooted in a rebellion against the "made-to-be-lost" culture. Disposable plastic lighters end up in landfills by the millions every year. By contrast, Craighill built the Swingtop in "explicit defiance of disposability".
