Sliccmic on Voice, Feeling, and the Making of Pop

In this conversation, Sliccmic shares how writing helped her navigate her first heartbreak, why her voice remains her most important instrument, and how notebooks, meditation, and even small playful details influence the way she creates. What emerges is a portrait of an artist who treats music as feeling first, form second.

Could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
"Hi! My name is Sliccmic and I am a singer/songwriter currently based in New York. I make pop songs with experimental and R&B elements."

What was the moment you knew you had to make music? 🎙️
I knew I had to make music after I went through my first breakup.I didnt know what to do with all of those heavy emotions. I was journaling a lot at the time and I wanted my writing to be heard, but I also loved to sing. A friend of mine suggested that I start practicing over youtube beats and the rest was history.

Do you remember the first piece of gear or instrument you ever owned? 🎸
I would say its my own voice! I've always loved to sing and did theater as a kid, so it has been interesting to see how much my voice has changed through the course of my life. I think that the voice is an instrument too, one that has to be fine tuned and reworked as it evolves.

What or who inspires you when you’re creating? Any sounds, habits, rituals, activities that help you get into a creative flow? 🎨
I like my music to either be based on my current experiences or a future desire that I have, so journaling is very important. I also try to meditate in silence before a session. I want my melodies to be as fresh sounding as possible. If I really get stuck I like listening to old Young Thug songs. I don't know what it is, but his flows are so abstract, it helps me think outside of the box.

How do you know when a song feels “complete”? 📐
I know a song is complete when I feel overwhelmed with joy. Sometimes I cry because I’m so happy. Its just an inner knowing.

Can you share a glimpse of your studio or setup?

Do you have your favorite part of your setup — a piece of gear, an instrument, or even a small detail? 🎧
My favorite part is actually my notebook. I have it specially engraved with my name and what I want my next era to be about. I usually have a super cute cartoonish pen as well. Everything has to be cute in my world.

Is there any piece of audio or studio equipment (instrument, plug-in, etc.) you used in the past or present that allowed you to define your voice as an artist? 🎹
This might be a very basic answer but I think its just regular old autotune. I don't think I would've been able to create my super sweet soundscape without it. It really adds ambiance and dimension to a song. I love it!!

What’s your favorite brand these days — in fashion, lifestyle, or tech — and why? 🛍️
My favorite brand right now is definitely Margiela. I love the way their clothes fit, I love their shoes and I love their fragrances too.Totally a 10 for me.

If you could recommend one song or album for our readers to truly listen to — what would it be? 🔊
Vespertine by Bjork. Nothing can truly encapsulate love like that album has for me. I think it is the best work of art ever of all time.

What are your favorite items from BrandsWalk? ♥️
I like the Sennheiser HD 650 Audiophile headphones! I love that they have the velour padding because a lot of headphones use materials that crack and peel overtime and its super uncomfortable and messy. I also love the Baggu Miffy picnic blanket. It looks so cute and easy to store! I love a good picnic!

Can you share a photo of your notebooks?

Is there any keepsake or object you always carry with you? Can you share some stories behind it?
I have to have my Monchichi! It always adds a little bit of fun to whatever I’m wearing. It has actually sparked a lot of conversations because people mistake it for a Labubu. Monchichi is so much cuter!!!
